Water rate increase and $1M bond for water system improvements
The water plant bid came in over the original $7 million loan, so the city is asking the state for up to $1,015,000 more. If it's a full loan, water customers could see about a $1 monthly surcharge.
Landfill expansion and closure financing
The city needs a new landfill cell by summer 2027 as existing cells fill up. The council is seeking a $655,000 state grant and a $2,045,375 low-interest loan, and hired Burns & McDonnell for $116,000 in engineering design work.
Storm Cleanup
Tuesday night storms scattered debris across Vermillion, and city crews are cleaning it up this week. Expect cleanup operations around town, so watch for crews and equipment.
Landfill Cell 7 construction management
Cells 3, 4, and 5 are filling up; the council approved $198,000 for Burns & McDonnell to oversee building the new Cell 7, which should be in service by summer 2027.
Prentis Forest preservation vs. housing development
Neighbors want the city to spare a wooded VCDC-owned lot between Prentis and Anderson streets slated for six to eight homes, saying Vermillion already has 83 plotted lots and plenty of room to grow elsewhere.
